A hammer rotor comprises hammers 16, the inner ends of which are confined within recesses 37 formed in the rotor body and one side of each hammer has a V-shaped groove 38 engaged by a corresponding projection on the rotor body, each hammer being secured in position by means of bolts 40 and to prevent the hammers from flying off the rotor when the bolts become excessively worn, a pair of end bushings and intermediate collars carried by a rod 44 are interposed between the inner end of each hammer and the bottom of the corresponding recess 37.
