893,497. Ladder structures. FOLLEY, G. P. April 28, 1959 [April 30, 1958], No. 14543/59. Class 20(2) Two ladder sections 3 may be arranged to support a wooden platform 4, Fig. 2, to form a step ladder, Fig. 6, or to form a long ladder 35, Fig. 7. Tension cables 11, Fig. 2, anchored by hooks 12 to lower rungs 2 are led over pulleys to a tensioning lever 9 to hold the structure together with the platform 4 arranged on supporting straps between plates 6. A handrail 19 is mounted on supports 18 secured to extensions 17 of the upper ends of the stiles 1. In Fig. 6, the ladder sections 3 are held together at their upper ends by a member 22 and near the bottom by a tension cable 29 and are held apart at an intermediate point by compression members 25. In Fig. 7, the ladder sections 3 are connected end to end by an extension 17 (not shown) while a tension cable 36 anchored to end rungs bears against the compression members 25.
