Abstract

892,561. Fasteners. DEUTSCH FASTENER CORPORATION. April 11, 1960 [April 13, 1959], No. 12867/60. Class 89(1). A fastener for securing a member 3 to a member 4 comprises a stud 20 located in cages 6, 7, connected to the member 4, and a nut 2 connected to the member 3, which when screwed on to the stud increases the shear strength of the fastener. The cage 6 having an internal square cross-section is riveted to the member 4 at 13, 14, and frictionally locates the cage 7 formed in two parts 7a, 7b. The stud 20 has a square flange 21 non-rotatably held between the ends 18, 19 of the cages, and carries a spring-urged square washer 24 having a serrated face 26 which engages a similar face 32 on the nut 2. A leaf spring 47 located in grooves 42, 43 in the nut and held in place by upsets 44, 45, retains the nut in any axial position in the member 3 when the fastener is in the released position, and a circlip 37 limits the axial movement. To secure the fastener, the nut is moved through the member 3 thus forcing the spring 47 into the grooves 42, 43, the circlip 37 is expanded and the nut is screwed on to the stud. The serrated faces 26, 32, engage, and further rotation of the nut overcomes the ratchet effect and moves the washer 24 against the spring 28, the ratchet preventing rotation of the nut in the opposite direction. The threads on the nut and stud may have multiple leads.
