892,383. Determining physical dimensions by electric tests. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. June 22, 1959 [Sept. 6, 1958], No. 21324/59. Class 37. [Also in Group XXI] Variations in the density of the explosive filling of a detonator or fuse cord is tested by mixing the filling with a substance having a high magnetic permeability, for example highfrequency iron powder, and testing variations in the density of the filling by a magnetic method. The substance of high magnetic permeability is mixed with the explosive up to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the explosive filling. The cord under test is moved through the coil of a high-frequency oscillator so as to vary its frequency. The output of the oscillator is then converted into D.C. voltage by a discriminator so that an indication of variations in the density of the cord filling can be read directly on a meter. Additionally, an automatic marking of discontinuities in the filling may be effected.
