740,147. Testing moulding materials. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES CONDUITES D'EAU. July 23, 1954 [July 27, 1953], No. 21514/54. Class 106 (2). Standard tests for shear and permeability of moulding materials are combined with a test to determine the effort required to withdraw the pattern. The test is carried out by compressing a given quantity of the material in a tube of given diameter to form a cylinder of a standard length and measuring the effort required to move the cylinder in the tube. Apparatus for testing comprises a ram 4 which is lowered on to the material 2 in the tube 1, a measured force F being applied to move the material. Permeability is tested by passing air through the test-piece 2 in the tube, and the test-piece is withdrawn from the tube and sheared along a diametral plane, the effort required being measured.
