Abstract

An oxidation catalyst comprises catalytically active silver activated with barium carbonate and supported by a carrier comprising ferrosilicon, the latter containing 25-98 wt. per cent Si and optionally small amounts of e.g. Ca, Mg, Al and Ti.ALSO:Ethylene oxide is prepared by oxidation at an elevated temperature of ethylene with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas, by use of a novel catalyst comprising catalytically active silver activated with barium carbonate and supported by a carrier comprising ferrosilicon, the latter containing 25-98 wt. per cent. Si and optionally small amounts of, e.g. Ca, Mg, Al and Ti.
