[Also in Group XXIX] An irrigating system comprises a conduit 11a means supplying water pressure thereto, e.g. a pump, means for temporarily reducing the pressure, e.g. a timing device, a series of valves 12 spaced along the conduit, water discharge means 54 associated with each valve, a valve member 50 closing communication between the valve and the downstream conduit when flow starts in the conduit, the flow then passing to the discharge 54, and valve actuating means 46, operative on reduction in water pressure to re-establish communication with the downstream conduit. Initial upstream pressure at D seats the loosely hanging rubber ball 50 on seat 53 to close the downstream conduit and the water then flows to spray nozzle 54. Pressure then raises rubber membranes 44b, 40 on either side of rigid plate 38, forces a contained liquid 45a through plate orifice 52 from below to above the plate and stretches rubber stem 46 connecting the ball to membrane 44b. When a manual or automatic timing device momentarily reduces the upstream pressure, stem 46 drags ball 50 off its seat 53 into a position within lateral spray pipe 28 limited by a rigid tube 47 around stem 46 whereby on the return of upstream pressure, the ball closes the spray nozzle 54 and water passes downstream to the next valve, When all the valves have been actuated, the upstream pressure is shut off, membrane 40, or a spring returns liquid 45a to below plate 38 and the ball hangs loosely within conduit 11a.
