Abstract

892,021. Heat exchangers. ROSSI, G. July 4, 1958 [April 8, 1958], No. 21440/58. Class 64(3) A counter flow heat exchanger comprises two sets of passageways formed by corrugations 28<SP>1</SP> the cross sectional area of one set of passageways either increasing or decreasing in the direction of fluid flow whilst the cross-sectional area of the other is either constant or increasing. In Fig. 9, the ends of the corrugations are closed to constrain the fluid entering inlet 36<SP>1</SP> and travelling the path indicated by the arrow X<SP>1</SP> to flow therethrough. Similarly the fluid entering at 37<SP>1</SP> and following the path Y<SP>1</SP> is constrained to flow between the other parts of the corrugations. In Fig. 10 the corrugations 40 are closed at their ends as indicated at 41, 42 in order to constrain the fluids to flow therethrough as indicated by the arrows V, Z. To provide the varying cross-sectional areas of the passageways the general shape of the exchanger is of a section of the frustum of a cone but an exchanger in which the corrugations are formed as an annulus in a hollow frustum of a cone is also described. Two heat exchangers may be disposed one above the other as shown in Fig. 7.
