Abstract

Electric furnace steel is deoxidised by the addition to the furnace melt of a mixture of calcium carbide, fluorspar and ferro-silicon at the instant when the second or white slag is formed. The addition mixture consists of 70%-85% calcium carbide, 15%-7% of 75% ferro-silicon and 15%-8% fluorspar and is added to the melt in the proportion of 0,8% to 1,2% by weight of the melt.
