Abstract

The desulphurization of hydrocarbon oils is effected by passing with steam at 350 DEG -450 DEG C. and not less than 15 atmospheres absolute over a catalyst comprising at least one sulphide of chromium, molybdenum or tungsten and at least one sulphide of iron, cobalt or nickel supported on a carrier consisting wholly or in part of alumina. The hydrocarbon oil may be a petroleum gasoline, kerosine, gas oil or residue, a coal tar crude benzene, toluene or xylene fraction or n-decane. The feed may be in liquid or vapour phase, preferably the "trickle" technique is employed. The catalyst is preferably cobalt and molybdenum sulphides, the support containing at least 90% alumina silica forming any balance. The space velocity may be 0,25-4 kg./litre of catalyst/hour and the amount of steam 0,5-500 mols. per gram atom of sulphur present. Both cyclic and acyclic sulphur compounds are decomposed.ALSO:The desulphurisation of hydrocarbon oils is effected by passing with steam at 350 DEG C-450 DEG C. and not less than 15 atmospheres absolute over a catalyst comprising at least one sulphide of chromium, molybdenum or tungsten and at least one sulphide of iron, cobalt or nickel supported on a carrier consisting wholly or in part of alumina.
