Abstract

890,823. Compressed gas discharge devices. NORMALAIR Ltd. Feb. 19, 1960, No. 5881/60. Class 8(2). A pin 12 for piercing the closure disc 33 of a compressed gas container 32 is held in its retracted position against a spring 14 by engagement of the upper free end of a lever 17 forming part of a toggle mechanism 15 in a recess 16 cut in a pivoted arm 3 subjected to movement imparted by a temperature or pressure responsive means 6 which releases the lever 17 and allows the pin to rupture the disc 33. The lever 17 is of inverted U-shape and is pivoted about a pin 24 straddling a pair of parallel arms 2 of the discharge head and is connected by a pivot link 15 to the upper end of the piercing pin 12 which has a hollow end 19 and radial bores 20 allowing access of discharged gas to an outlet 23. As shown the arm 3 is controlled by an evacuated capsule 6 which expands at a predetermined size in ambient pressure such as occurs during a parachute descent and which may be overridden by a manual control 34, Fig. 4 (not shown).
