807,704. Thermal switches; switches retained set and released mechanically. SOC. D'ETUDES ELECTRO MECANIQUES. April 12, 1957 [April 28, 1956], No. 12073/57. Class 38 (5). A switch comprises a current-responsive bimetallic element 5 with a contact 10 at its free end and carried by a movable member 6 which is tiltable and controlled by a spring-biased slidable member 14, a releasable locking connection occurring between the movable member and the slidable member when the switch is closed. Thus, in the Figure the end of an arm 7 of the member 6, which tilts about pivots indicated at 9, is engaged in a recess 20 in a projection 17 of the member 14. When the actuating knob 16 is manually moved to the right, the arm 7 is released from the recess 20 and the projection 17 engages and moves the other arm 8 of the member 6 to tilt the member 6 and open the contacts 10, 11. Under overload conditions, the bimetallic element reverses its curvature to open the contacts 10, 11 and in doing so releases the pressure acting to maintain the arm 7 in the recess 20 so releasing the slidable member 14 for movement to the right under the action of the spring 19. Should the bimetallic element be of the kind which does not resume its initial shape automatically on cooling, the final movement of the member 14 to the right acting through the arm 8 restores the bimetallic element to its original shape, ready for a manual reclosing operation. This final resetting movement may be effected by the spring 19 or manually. Specification 772,526 is referred to.
