890,766. Gymnastic apparatus. SPENCER, HEATH & GEORGE Ltd., and BATES, H. W. Jan. 6, 1961 [March 24, 1960], No. 10537/60. Class 132(1) Gymnastic apparatus consisting of a boom which comprises one or more horizontal beams mounted for adjustment in a vertical plane comprises a supporting plate 14 and a pivotal attachment such as a stud 13 between the end of the beam 11 and the supporting plate by means of which the beam 11 can be supported and pivoted about its longitudinal axis in relation to the supporting plate, the supporting plate carrying or being formed with a projecting portion which serves to support the end of the beam in the event that the pivotal attachment between the beam and the supporting plate fails. The end of the beam 11 has a U-shaped plate 12 fitting in the plate 14. The beam pivots on the stud 13 secured to the plate 14. A suspension wire 15 passes through an aperture in a bent part of the plate 14 and round a stud 18 removably fitted in the bent part. The end of the wire is welded to the wire to form a loop which a sleeve 19 covers. The sleeve cannot pass through the aperture so the plate 14 rests on the sleeve in the event of the pivot stud breaking and the beam rests on the lower part of the plate 14. A pin 17 secures the plate 14 and beam 11. To prevent inadvertent separation of the upright guide members for the beam, each end of the beam has a downward extension cooperating with a pin 20 connected to an upright member.
