[Also in Group XXI] The inflation of a pressurized acceleration protection garment worn, e.g., by airmen, is controlled by a valve device comprising a main valve 32 controlling the supply of inflating fluid from an inlet 12 to an outlet 24 to the garment (not shown) and controlled by a pilot valve 50 actuated by displacement of an accelerometric mass 78, there being means for applying a regulating pressure to modify the response of the pilot valve to the accelerometric mass. Fluid from the inlet is supplied to the upper side of a diaphragm 22 of the main valve through a restriction 18 and the pressure on this diaphragm is controlled by a hinged pilot valve 50 controlling a leak-off into a chamber 44 which communicates with the outlet 24, the pilot valve being actuated by the mass 78 through a beam 82 which acts on a stem 88. This stem is carried on a diaphragm 42 responsive on one side to the pressure in chamber 44 and on the other side to ambient pressure or a control pressure regulated e.g. as a function of altitude, at 34. Downward movement of the mass 78 on acceleration causes opening of the main valve 32 and is also arranged through the beam 82 to hold closed a vent valve 66 controlling a vent opening from a chamber 70 connected to the outlet 24 and to chamber 44. On removal of the acceleration force, the beam 82 rises to open the vent valve 66 and deflate the garment. This vent valve is carried on a diaphragm 68 and is exposed at 36 to ambient pressure or a control pressure also regulated according to altitude. A spring-loaded relief valve 100 prevents over-pressurizing of the garment. The beam 82 may also be depressed by a manual push-button 94 acting through a spring against the weight 78, so as to operate the main valve for test purposes.
