Class 60 [Also in Group XXXVI] Apparatus for the supply of coolant to a grinding machine comprises means for simultaneously impelling a liquid from a reservoir 1 to a point of use 72 and for gathering a dropletladen gas from the liquid and returning a portion thereof to the reservoir, a pump 8 between the reservoir and the point of use, a blower 36 above the pump and arranged to discharge the droplet-laden gas directly above the reservoir, and a motor 31 for simultaneously operating the pump and blower. The pump impeller 12 discharges coolant from the reservoir 1 via a pipe 71 to the outlet 72 adjacent the grinding wheel 61, whence it falls to a pan 68 and is returned by a pipe 73 to the tank. Simultaneously the blower draws air through a conduit 74 to an intake 30 to the blower chamber whence it is discharged to a chamber 38 containing baffles 41, 42. Droplets entrained with the airstream will be caused by the baffles to drip into a tank 2. Air, partly freed from droplets, is discharged at an outlet 39 after passing downwardly around a skirt 37, the sharp change in direction of flow from horizontal to downward causing deposition of most of the liquid for re-cycling. The motor, shaft, pump and blower may be reversible. The pump motor may be connected in parallel with the grinding wheel driving-motor and both motors operated from the same set of controls to effect simultaneous reversal of wheel and impellers without changing the character or direction of flow of the coolant, the impellers being designed when so required for operation in either direction.
