Abstract
889,978. Insulated fish-plates. PERMALI Ltd. Dec. 23, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 42244/58. Class 104 (2). An insulating fish-plate incorporates longitudinal post or pre-stressed bars or wires 4. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the fishplate comprises a densified laminated wood portion 1, the laminations of which are vertical and run longitudinally of the plate, having plates 5 clamped against each end of bars 4 which are post tensioned by nuts 6 screwed on the ends thereof. The fish-plate may have sections 7 at each end comprising a densified laminated wood, the laminations of which are at right-angles to those of the central portion 1 of the fish-plate. A central part 8 adjacent the two end bolt holes 2 is removed and the space filled with a steel reinforcement. The laminations may also be made of resin impregnated glass film or a composite body consisting of laminated wood interleaved with glass film fabric. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the removed central portion 9 at each end of the fish-plate is filled with a densified wood having the laminations at right-angles to the laminations of the fish-plate. Alternatively, the removed portion 9 may be filled with a metal and an insulating layer 10.
