Abstract

889,900. Rectilinear-motion bearings. AUTOSET (PRODUCTION) Ltd. Sept. 13, 1960 [June 13, 1959], No. 20322/59. Addition to 856,745. Class 12 (1). In a bearing of the ball-castor type, a loadcarrying ball 10 is supported by ball-bearings 16 in an endless track formed between a hemispherical partition 13 having arcuate concave and convex surfaces 14, 15, and the inner surface of a mounting 7, and means are provided for scraping the periphery of the load ball. The balls may circulate both surfaces 14, 15 of the partition 13, Fig. 1, alternatively surface 14 only is engaged, Fig. 2; and a guide 28a facilitates the circulation of the balls. The partition 13 has a central spigot 19 engaging a socket 17 of a castor peg 18 which, having external flanges 20, 21 is secured to a mounting 7 having an internal flange 22, a washer 23 being interposed between the flanges. A scraper 24 is attached to the mouth 8 of the mounting 7 and has a lip 25 engaging the ball 10. The spigot and socket rocking means 19, 17, Fig. 1, may be replaced by a ball 26, Fig. 2, which engages recesses in the peg 18 and partition 13 ; alternatively, as shown in Fig. 3, a ball race 29 is positioned between the partition 13 and the inner surface of the mounting 7. A sealing ring 33, Fig. 5, is located in the mouth of the mounting 7.
