Abstract
889,476. Rolling. MOELLER & NEUMAN G.m.b.H. Jan. 13, 1960 [Jan. 21, 1959], No. 1249/60. Class 83 (4). In a device to release jammed rolls of a rolling mill a movable wedge-shaped key 6, which is normally secured against yield under the rolling load, is released by the introduction of oil under pressure to its pressure surfaces to relieve the stress in the screwdown 1. Oil is introduced under pressure to the pressure surfaces of the key 6 by hand pumps 11, 12 through pipes 13, 14 and radial and annular grooves 8, 7 respectively. Release of the wedge or key 6 may be assisted by a fluid-operated piston 15 attached to the key. A limited movement of the piston 15 and the key 6 together and equal to the distance X is permitted by the outward adjustment of nuts 18, 19 on a threaded extension 15a of the piston. During rolling, the nuts 18, 19 are tightened against a cylinder 16 which contains the piston 15 and is integral with the roll-chock 2, the key 6 thus being secured against accidental release.
