Abstract

The desulphurisation of technical grades of benzene, toluene and naphthalene is effected by passing the vapours with hydrogen at about atmospheric pressure over a sulphur resistant hydrogenation catalyst, comprising cobalt and molybdic oxides on alumina. The temperature may be 300 DEG C.-500 DEG C. Hydrogen sulphide may be removed from the gaseous product leaving hydrogen for recycle.
