Abstract
889,147. Electrolysis. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 5, 1960 [Feb. 9, 1959], No. 4413/59. Class 41. An electrode for use in electrolysis, e.g. for oxidizing H2SO4 or for producing per compounds, comprises an anodically polarizable metal, i.e. Ti, Nb, Ta, or alloys of Ti with Nb and/or Ta, or Ti-based alloys, which, when made anodic, forms an insulating film of comparable or greater electrical resistance than that formed on Ti under identical conditions, a noble metal of the Pt group in wrought and reticulate form being secured to the surface of the polarizable metal. Pt group metals are Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, In, Pt, and alloys of two or more of these metals, and Pt, Rh or an alloy of Pt, Rh are preferred, this metal, which may be a mesh or perforated foil, being spot-welded to the polarizable metal, which may be porous, e.g. being compacted Ti powder, and may have a Cu core. Specification 877,901 is referred to.
