888,695. Hard fibre spinning machines. MACKIE & SONS Ltd., JAMES. Aug. 11, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 26999/57. Class 120(2) A flyer gill spinning machine for hard fibres has a drafting roller common to all flyers and haul pulleys that-draw fibres from the drafting roller through smoothing dies, the relative surface speeds of the drafting roller and haul pulleys being capable of continuous smooth variation by adjustment of the speed of the haul pulleys relative to their rotary carrier. The haul pulleys 20 are mounted on the carrier 21 which is driven through gearing 25, 26, 28, the pulleys themselves being driven through gears 22, 23, spindle 32 and gears 33 and 34 from the output shaft 36 of a variable speed gear-box 37. Adjustment of the ratio of the gear-box 37 may be made by a control handle 39. Rotation of the flyers is effected by a rope drive from the main drive shaft 10 of the machine.
