Abstract
888,634. Refining steel. ARBED, ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH-EICHDUDELANGE S. A. Feb. 10, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 4654/60. Class 72. [Also in Group XII] A method of surface blowing molten metals comprises passing a main stream of gas through a nozzle and passing secondary streams of gas into the main stream so that the main jet diverges. As shown, the gas, e.g. oxygen, may be passed through a nozzle 5 which is arranged spaced from and centrally of a water-cooled double-walled tube 1. Another gas, or, if desired, the same gas, at the same, a higher or a lower pressure, may be passed through the space between the nozzle and the tube and into the main stream through nozzles 6 the axes of which may be directed downstream and towards the axis of the main jet or may be arranged angularly thereto to produce a spin. Variation in pressure in the secondary gas stream produces variation in the amount of divergence in the main jet. The main gas stream may contain finely divided fluxes in suspension.
