Abstract

888,008. Hydraulic turbines. BOVING & CO. Ltd. July 9, 1959 [July 14, 1958], No. 22526/58. Class 110 (3). A needle mounting of a Pelton impulse hydraulic turbine comprises an internal cylindrical bearing in the wall of the inlet pipe leading to the nozzle, an axially - movable sleeve mounted in the cylindrical bearing and needle carrying means extending inwardly from the sleeve to the needle so that the sleeve is spaced coaxially around the needle and defines, with the inlet pipe, a passage for the free flow of water. A needle head 1 is mounted on stem 1a supported in a needle shaft 2 carried by vanes 3 in a sleeve 4. The sleeve 4 is mounted to slide axially in a cylindrical bearing formed in two parts 5, 5<SP>1</SP> in an inlet pipe 6 leading to the nozzle 7. The sleeve 4 has a circumferential piston 8 working in an annular cylinder 9. Ports 10 are provided for the admission and return of pressure fluid which acts on the piston 8 against the action of helical springs 11. A rib on the sleeve 4, engaging a groove in the pipe 6, prevents rotation of the sleeve. A ramp 15 and plunger 16 operate as a feed-back. A cylindrical liner 17 forms with the sleeve 5<SP>1</SP> an annular recess 18 which acts as a cylinder space for the downstream end of the sleeve 4. A clearance 19 allows water to flow to the recess 18, the pressure in which partially balances the load on the sleeve 4 indicated at C. A by-pass may be provided to lead water to the space 18 from a point upstream of the sleeve 4. The sleeve 4 may be adjusted axially by mechanical gear such as levers, worm or pinion and rack. Provision may also be made to supply hydraulic fluid to either side of the piston land 8.
