Abstract
1,047,530. Valves. TURBINENFABRIK DRESDEN VEB. Feb. 10, 1964, No. 5429/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] An annular array of segmental slide members 1 forms a valve controlling the flow of working fluid through the guide and rotor blades 3, 4 respectively of a steam or gas turbine. Chambers 9 on the downstream side of the slide members are supplied with pressurized steam or gas through passages 10 so as to compensate for the working fluid pressure acting on the upstream side of each slide and thus reduce friction during radial control movements. The spindle 2 of each slide is loose in its housing so that the slide has a limited degree of axial freedom thus enabling the leak-off gap past-the slide for fluid from chamber 9 to adjust itself to the working fluid pressure on the upstream face of the slide. Grooves 6 give each slide a degree of flexibility. In a modification the chambers 9 are provided in the downstream surfaces of the slides.
