Abstract

887,199. Decking apparatus for pit hoists. QUALTER, HALL & CO. (SALES) Ltd. March 16, 1960 [March 19, 1959], No. 9632/59. Class 78 (4). An apparatus for transferring mine cars into and out of a lift cage 10 comprises a pair of platforms 9, 9a which are maintained at the same level as the cage floor by automatic levelling devices 33. Each platform is guided for vertical movement on posts 12 and is suspended from four cables 15 which are yoked together and connected to chains 18 passing over sprockets 19 on shafts 20 which are adapted to be rotated by cranks 22 and fluid-pressure rams 21 in correspondence with movement of an associated valve control mechanism 33 which senses and corrects any misalignment of the associated platform and the cage floor. Platform 9 is provided with a chain-operated traversing device 31, and platform 24 is inclined to the horizontal to allow empty cars discharged from the cage to run off. Stops 25, 26, 27, which are retracted sequentially by means (not shown), control movement of cars through the apparatus. In various modifications (not shown) fluid pressure levelling rams act on the corners of the platforms, the cage is loaded by tilting platform 9, the rams 21 and valves 33 are replaced by an electric motor control system, and multi-deck platforms are provided for use with multi-deck cages.
