Abstract
<PICT:0885530/IV (a)/1> A perforated plastic tube 1, closed at one end, is adapted to fit on a ring spindle and is used to both wind and dye yarn. The tube is preferably made of polythene and, for dyeing, is fitted on a hollow ferrule (Fig. 2) which may be of metal or plastic, e.g. polythene, and which is secured on a carrier plate 10 for immersion in the dye liquor.ALSO:Packages of yarn are dyed by winding in a ring frame on to a plastic tube 1 so as to cover the perforated portion thereof, then attaching the tube to a hollow ferrule (see Fig. 2) which is secured to a carrier plate 10 forming part of a dyeing machine and finally passing dye liquor through the yarn through the holes in the tube. The tube 1 is a one-piece seamless tube of synthetic plastic materials, e.g. polythene, which is shaped interiorly to fit tightly on a ring spindle so as to rotate therewith and may be adapted for locking engagement with the ferrule. The ferrule may be of metal or plastic and in the latter case may be pushed into its position on the carrier plate. The yarn may be dyed by passage of the dye liquor either inwards to or outwards from the tube. The ferrule may have two or more tapered portions to fit tubes of different sizes. <PICT:0885530/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0885530/IV (c)/2>
