Abstract

The invention comprises sulphonamides of the formula <FORM:0884827/IV (b)/1> and salts thereof, in which R1 is hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, halogen (e.g. Cl) or a free or etherified hydroxy group and Z1 and Z2 are hydrogen atoms or one is hydrogen and the other a C1-6 alkyl radical. The compounds are prepared by reacting together compounds of the formulae <FORM:0884827/IV (b)/2> wherein one of X1 and Y1 represents an amino group and the other a halogen atom, for example by reacting a toluenesulphonyl chloride with a pyridazine amine. Specified products include 3-chloro-, 3-hydroxy-, 3-methoxy- and 3-ethoxy-, 6 - p - toluenesulphonamido - pyridazine and 3 - chloro - 6 - benzenesulphonamido- and - 6 - o - toluenesulphonamido - pyridazine.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations for treatment of diseases of the liver comprise a sulphonamide of the formula <FORM:0884827/VI/1> or a salt thereof, in which R1 is hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, halogen (e.g. Cl) or a free or etherified hydroxy group and Z1 and Z2 are hydrogen atoms or one is hydrogen and the other a C1-6 alkyl radical (see Group IV (b)) in admixture or conjunction with a pharmaceutical carrier for enteral or parenteral administration. The preparations suitably take the form of tablets, dragees, solutions, suspensions or emulsions and may contain, in addition to conventional diluents, preserving, stabilizing, wetting or emulsifying agents, salts for controlling osmotic pressure or buffer substances, or further therapeutically useful substances. Specified salts are those of alkali and alkaline-earth metals.
