884,725. Ice-making. OLDHAM, J. Dec. 3, 1958 [Nov. 12, 1957], No. 19256/60. Divided out of 884,724. Class 29 A mould for use in making frozen confections comprises individual spaced apart moulding cells 14 having apertures 18 to which are connected pipe or sump means arranged to permit communication between the cells 14 so that when a liquid preparation is poured into one or more of them, it rises to the same level in all of them. The pipe means may be a system of tubes 15 formed with spaced apart apertures 17 which register with the cell apertures 18 and including tubes 16 extending longitudinally of the mould and interconnected by transverse tubes or headers 19. Plugs 20, 21 are provided at the ends of the tubes and can be removed for cleaning or sterilising purposes. Alternatively, the pipe means comprises a plate formed with apertures registering with those in the cells and providing communication between the cells through a series of tubes of U-section secured to the plate or through channels pressed or embossed in a plate welded to the apertured plate. Where a sump is used instead of the tubes, it is of split construction to provide an upper part welded to the mould cells and a lower part bolted to the upper part with a gasket between the two, so that the two parts may be separated for cleaning purposes.
