Abstract
884,364. Loud-speakers. ROLA CELESTION Ltd. May 2, 1958 [May 2, 1957], No. 14052/57. Class 40 (4). In an electrostatic loud-speaker comprising a graphite-coated diaphragm 17 of insulating material such as polyvinyl chloride which is secured by screws 13 between sections 11, 12 of a circular or rectangular mounting frame 10, the diaphragm is adjustably tensioned by an insulating strip or rod 21 which depresses a portion of the diaphragm into a channel 19 when acted upon by spaced tensioning screws 24. Electrical connection between a lead 18 and the diaphragm is provided by a channel 14 lined with metal foil 15, the edge region of the diaphragm being inserted in this channel after being wrapped around a cardboard strip 16. The electrodes on either side of the diaphragm are formed of parallel metal rods 31 interconnected by a metal bus-bar 33, the assembly being coated with insulating material. Support is provided by spaced insulating cross-struts 35 which have a foam rubber layer in sounddamping contact with the diaphragm so as to break up its upsupported area and thereby increase the resonant frequency.
