Abstract

884,310. Toothed gearing. KOLLSMAN INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. April 10, 1959 [July 31, 1958], No. 12185/59. Class 80 (1). The angular position of a shaft 10 is indicated by the angular position of a shaft 12 through a closed-loop continuously driven gear train comprising differential assemblies 14, 15 associated with the shafts 10, 12 respectively. The spiders of the differentials are secured to the shafts 10, 12 whilst the side bevels are connected through idlers 16, 17 with gears 25, 251 and 26, 261 thereon. The gear 17 is continuously driven from a motor 31 without affecting the positions of shafts 10, 12 whilst movement of shaft 10 is transmitted to shaft 12 without producing errors due to backlash or inaccuracies in the toothing. In a modified arrangement the side bevels of the differentials are connected through step-up gearings so that the angular position of the one shaft is multiplied at the other.
