Abstract

A lacquer or other film forming suspension is treated for hindering the settling of pigment or other finely powdered filler contained therein by adding a small amount of a salt of a phosphoric acid with an organic base, said salt being readily soluble in organic solvents and the amount of said salt added being 0,1-0,7% by weight of the solid content of the suspension as defined. The solid content of the suspension is defined as including the film forming agent and the fillers or pigments. The basic component of the salt is preferably a water insoluble tertiary amine such as dimethylaniline, dimethyl cyclohexylamine, or tributylamine. A monobasic or a di-basic phosphate or a mixture of these may be used.
