Abstract
884,084. Lift trucks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 15, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 5269/60. Class 78 (3). The lifting carriage C of a masted lift truck is provided with channelled uprights 20 which guide rollers 23 on a carriage 24 to which is pivoted at 25 a frame 26 carrying carton - gripping prongs 60, 61. The frame 26 is also linked to the carriage C by levers 29 and hydraulic rams 38, the arrangement being such that contraction of the rams moves the frame 26 from the position shown in Fig. 3 to that shown in Fig. 5. The frame 26 has uprights 41, 42 on which slide a lower gripper 45 carrying a carton-engaging prong 60 and actuated by a ram 46; and uprights 40, 43 on which slides an upper gripper 50 carrying a prong 61 and actuated by a ram 51. In operation the truck is driven up to a carton (Fig. 3), the rams 46, 51 are extended so that the prongs 60, 61 engage under the lids 65, 66 of the carton, the carriage C is lifted by ram 13, and then the rams 38 are contracted to raise the carrier 24 and to cause the frame 26 to swing about its pivot 25 until the carton is in the position shown in Fig. 3, in which position it can be deposited where required.
