883,934. Self-tapping screws. GENERAL AMERICAN TRANSPORATION CORPORATION. May 25, 1960 [May 28, 1959], No. 18432/60. Addition to 798,657. Class 83 (3). A self-tapping screw comprises a screwed cylindrical shank 21a and a screwed pilot end 21b tapering to a point, the shank and end having a plurality of substantially longitudinally extending and circumferentially spaced flutes 23, 26 the bottoms of which lie substantially on the minor diameter of the shank and end threads. One flute 23 interrupts a plurality of both shank and end threads and extends to the point. The other flutes 26 each interrupt a plurality of shank threads and at least one end thread, and terminates short of the point. The flutes end on the shank substantially at the root between adjacent threads.
