669,157. Self-tapping screws. PARKERKALON CORPORATION. Nov. 28, 1949 [July 1, 1949], No. 30453/49. Class 83 (iii). A self-tapping screw has a portion of the threads of the tapping portion 2 compressed into the body to form a wide shallow flute 3 whose bottom surface is substantially concentric with the root diameters of the cutting teeth so as to co-operate with the wall of the hole in the engaged material in breaking up chips. The thread - ends at the opposite side of the flute to the substantially radial cutting shoulders 4, rise gradually along an incline 5 tangential to the root diameter. More than one flute may be provided and they may be parallel to the screw axis or inclined to it.
