757,763. Locking screws. AMERICAN SCREW CO. June 30, 1954 [July 9, 1953], No. 19237/54. Class 89 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A self-tapping and self-locking screw comprises a tool-engaging head 10 and a tapered shank 12 formed with a coarse-pitch helicalthread 14, the turns of the thread being separated by a flat rootportion 15 which is deformed throughout at least one turn to provide ratchet-like locking teeth 15<SP>1</SP>. The teeth face oppositely to the driving direction of the screw and the faces 16 may be inclined to the screw-axis. In a modification, the shank is not tapered and the thread-crests are cut off towards the tip of the screw, and a flat may be formed to provide a cutting-edge.
