Abstract

An electrophotographic plate comprises a paper or metal support coated with a dispersion in a resinous binder of a photo-conductive polynuclear organic compound containing at least two condensed benzenoid rings and substituted by one or more similar to different substituents selected from:- a halogen atom, a nitro, cyano, hydroxy or aldehyde group or an alkyl, acyl or aryl radical. Exemplary compounds are 9, 10-dichloroanthracene, 3, 9-dibromobenz-anthrone, 1, 5-dicyanonaphthalene, 3-nitrobenzanthrone, 9, 10-diphenylanthracene, 9 anthracenealdehyde and 2-hydroxyanthracene. Suitable binders and dye sensitizers are those used in the layers described in Specification 883,782. Three exemplary coating compositions using a silicone resin as binder and one using melamine-formaldehyde resin are described in detail. Specifications 633,849, 772,627, 775,818, 808,485, 811,165, 818,068 and German Specification 853,351 also are referred to.ALSO:A supported layer for use as an electrophotographic plate (see Group XXXVI) comprises, dispersed in a resinous binder, a photo-conductive polynuclear organic compound containing at least two condensed benzenoid rings and substituted by one or more similar or different substituents selected from: a halogen atom, a nitro, cyano, hydroxy or aldehyde group or an alkyl, acyl, or aryl, radical. Exemplary compounds are 9,10 dichloroanthracene, 3,9-dibromo-benzanthrone, 1,5-dicyanonaphthalene, 3-nitrobenzanthrone, 9,10-diphenylanthracene, 9-anthracenealdehyde and 2-hydroxyanthracene. Suitable binders and dye sensitizers are those used in the layers described in Specification 883,782. Three specific examples using silicone resins as binders and one using melamine-formaldehyde resin are described.
