Abstract

The photographic backing papers of Specifications 717,926, 717,958 and 751,797 are modified by having an outer layer of a black pigment in an ethyl cellulose binder. With the first and last named, this layer is coated over the already existing black coating. With the second, which has a black coating formed as two separate layers, the outer layer is replaced by the layer of the present invention. A preferred composition for the layer is 5% each by weight of carbon black and ethyl cellulose, the remainder being ethanol. The overall thickness of the backing paper is less than ,0045 inch, and in using it to form a roll film, the black layer is in contact with the film base.
