[Also in Group XXV] Mechanism for transmitting motion from a rotatably mounted driving cam 5 to a displaceable driven member 1 comprises a ball 7 located in a guideway 2 which extends around the circumference of the cam 5 and also in the direction of displacement of the driven member 1. The driven member 1 is spring-pressed in the direction of the cam 5 and moves in that direction when the ball 7 enters a recess 8 in the cam 5 and is carried around the curved portion of the guideway 2 in a clockwise direction. On reversal of the direction of rotation of the cam 5, the ball 7 acts on the member 1 to return it to its original position. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, a plurality of balls 7 is located in a guideway having straight portions 2a, 2b connected by a curved portion 2c, a spring-pressed plunger 1a being disposed at the end of the portion 2b, and the cam has two recesses 8, 8a. Thus, the driven member 1 is displaced a distance equivalent to twice the diameter of the balls 7 for every revolution of the cam 5. As shown in Fig. 4, the portion 2a of the guideway is arranged vertically and the balls 7 are maintained in contact with the cam 5 by gravity. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the driven member comprises a pivoted arm 13 adapted to be moved incrementally by rollers 17 which engage recesses 18 in a driving cam 15. Fig. 10 shows a similar construction having a driven member 26 which is adapted to move laterally. Fig. 7 shows a modification in which a member 20 is adapted to be moved laterally by balls 17 which are transferred from one side to the other of a driving cam 15. In a further modification, a driven member 24, Fig. 9, is adapted to be rotated incrementally by rollers 17 which are moved intermittently by a driving cam 15. The invention is applied to a door-lock, shown in Fig. 11, in which a bolt 102 is advanced or retracted by rollers 105 which, on rotation of a cam 107, are transferred from one side of the cam to the other. The bolt 102 is integral with parallel spaced shanks 103, 103a which slide upon a raised portion of the casing. In another modification, a bolt 201, Fig. 15, has a recess 205 which is engaged by an arm 204 of a lever 202 having an arcuate surface 208 supporting balls or rollers 206. Rotation of a cam member 207 transfers balls or rollers from one side of the cam to the other and thereby effects pivotal movement of the lever 202 and consequential movement of the bolt 201.
