In a device which converts reciprocation of a rack 56 into consecutive axial-rotary-axial motion of a driven shaft 14 carrying a tool arm 12, a lock member 2, secured to the shaft 14, has arcuate shoulders which engage a peripheral circular arcuate portion of an intermediate member 4 to locate the member 2 at the ends of its rotary movement, and a pin 100, carried by lock member 2, engages fixed bushes 132 to lock the member 2 in these end positions. Rotary movement is imparted to shaft 14 through a pinon 46, on a shaft 40 carrying member 4, meshing rack 56, and a follower 38 on member 4 engaging a slot 126 in member 2. Axial movement is imparted to shaft 14 by a pivoted lever 66 which carries a cam follower 76 which engages a cam 58 mounted on rack 56, and has a yoke 68 which is located between collars 70 on the shaft 14. The member 66 is maintained in contact with the cam 58 by a spring 82.
