Abstract

A polymer composition comprises a linear, amorphous substantially saturated aliphatic b -olefin polymer or copolymer and natural rubber and/or a highly unsaturated synthetic rubber and is vulcanized by heating in the presence of a free-radical initiator. The free radical initiator may be a peroxide or hydroperoxide, e.g. benzoyl or dicumyl peroxide or a peroxidic or hydroperoxidic derivative of the polymer or copolymer. An unsaturated compound such as maleic acid, maleic anhydride or an ester may be included in the composition to graft on to the polymer chain. There may also be included metal oxides, e.g. zinc, lead or magnesium oxide, and fillers such as carbon black, silica, silicates or oxides. The polymer may be a copolymer of ethylene and propylene and the synthetic rubber may be butadiene-styrene or butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber.
