Abstract

Cross-linked copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate are bonded to the surfaces of metals, e.g. iron and aluminium or of polymeric materials by cross-linking a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate using a peroxide cross-linking agent in the presence of a low molecular organic phosphate having a plurality of olefinic double bonds and bonding the cross-linked copolymer to the surface by heating. The copolymer may be applied by spreading or spraying a solution of by steeping the body therein, or the composition in solid form may be brought into contact with the surface. The cross-linking and bonding may be carried out simultaneously at 100 DEG to 160 DEG C. while the low molecular phosphate may be trialkyl phosphate. Cumene peroxide is the specified peroxide while fillers, e.g. carbon black and active silicic acid and a fatty acid and rosin or a phenol-formaldehyde resin may also be present.ALSO:Cross-linked copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate are bonded to the surfaces of metals or of polymeric materials by cross-linking a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate using a peroxide cross-linking agent in the presence of a low-molecular organic phosphate having a plurality of olefinic double bonds and bonding the cross-linked copolymer to the surface by heating. The cross-linking and bonding may be carried out simultaneously at 100 DEG to 160 DEG C. while the low-molecular compound may be triallyl phosphate. Cumene peroxide is the specified peroxide while fillers, e.g. carbon black and active silicic acid and a fatty acid and resin may also be present.
