Abstract

[Also in Group II] A filter for straining liquids comprises a septum 40 which is kept in vibration with a rapid orbital movement of small amplitude combined with a rocking movement like that of a swash plate and is so supported that its centre of gravity is held from any substantial vertical movement. The septum 40 is carried by a supporting structure comprising resiliently mounted rods 24, the centres of which must be less than three-quarters of the radius of the septum from the axis of the septum, and members 30 which are connected to a carrier ring 36 and triangular sub-frame 31, which supports an out-of-balance flywheel 33 whose centre of gravity must be lower than that of the supporting structure. The carrier ring 36 has toggle clamps 38 which engage the septum flange 39. The supporting structure is carried at 28 by a base structure comprising a member 11 having rollers 12 and 13, of which 12 is rendered steerable by the tiller 14, and upright members 15 having arms 18 connected thereto which support a spider 19 and inverted V-frame members 23. The spider 19 supports an electric motor 20 which drives the flywheel 33 through a known coupling. The bottom outlet from the septum comprises a funnel shaped member directly below the septum and a lateral shoot 41, the two parts having concentric overlapping portions where they approach one another and a pneumatic tube is disposed between the overlapping portions to provide a seal. Above the septum a conical shaped casing having an inlet aperture has secured to it by spacers 45, so as to stand just above the septum, a guide wall 42 extending from a point slightly offset from the centre of the septum to an aperture connecting with the top outlet 43. The toggle clamps 38 may be replaced by studs and nuts. Specifications 562,210 and 699,745 are referred to.
