Classes 75(1) and 75(3)] A gas lighting device comprises a gas poker supplied with gas through a valve e opened by a spring E and held in closed position by the end of the stem e<SP>1</SP> of the valve abutting against the poker when the latter is inserted into a hole a in the top of the valve casing. On withdrawing the poker the valve opens to supply gas and the poker is then inserted in a hole g in a springy arm G so that the gas is directed by the poker on to a filament d energized by a battery c<SP>1</SP> through contacts closed by bending of the arm G due to the pressure necessary to insert the poker in the hole g.
