[Also in Group XXII] A method of making smooth-walled, pervious flexible tubing comprises braiding a length of tubing from groups of wires arranged side-byside in band fashion so as to produce tubing consisting of inter-woven bands of adjacent wires, and flattening the curvature of the individual wires as each wire crosses a band of parallel wires of another band by compressing the wall of the tubing between substantially flat parallel surfaces. As shown, in Fig. 6, the tubular braid liner 56 is placed on a mandrel 64 and the assembly is compressed between plates 66, the liner being shifted circumferentially by a small amount to bring each longitudinal portion of the liner under the plates in turn. The flexible hose shown in Fig. 1 comprises an annularly or helical corrugated tube 42 of sheet metal, synthetic plastic or other organic material, having stubs 46 secured to end fittings 48 mounting flanges 50, the tube being reinforced by an external sheath 52 of wire braid.
