Abstract
1379544 Hose; pipe couplings T F MOSS 31 Jan 1972 3571/71 Headings F2P and F2G An extensible airline comprises a tube of thermoplastics material preformed into a coil or like shape, having a metal coil spring located within the tube extending from one end thereof at least partially along its length, the coils of the coil spring at the said one end of the tube being immobilized within said one end thereby internally stiffening the said one end. The stiffening may be achieved by winding the endmost coils of the spring to a diameter slighter greater than the natural internal diameter of the thermoplastics tube, thereby causing compression and immobilization of the coils. Alternatively the adjacent turns of the coil may be secured to each other (e.g. by welding, brazing or silver soldering), the, immobilzed spring being either cylindrical, flared or "flanged" by suitable deposition of the mutually adjacent turns. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4 (Fig. 1, not shown), the stiffening assists in preheating the end being pulled out of an end fitting of the compression type.
