Abstract
972,784. Self-coiling hoses. T. F. MOSS. April 18, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 16808/62. Heading F2P. [Also in Division A4] A synthetic plastic tube is at least in part selfcoiling, the said part being formed to shape a coil in which the diameter of each convolution differs from that of each adjacent convolution. Such a tube may be formed so that the coils, when retracted one within the other form a flat disc. Fig. 3 shows a hose of this sort used as apparatus for an air-station one end 5 of thecoil being attached through a back-plate 3 to a feed-line. The other end 6 has a nozzle 7. The whole hose is supported on a hook 4 on the plate 3. The hose may be made from nylon or polypropylene. The extruded tube is wrapped as a coil on a mandrel having a fixed diameter over the larger part of its length and diameters which diminish towards the end. Internal mandrels prevent collapse whilst the whole is immersed in hot liquid (preferably at a temperature between 218 and 220 F., in the case of nylon) for about 20 minutes. Thereafter it is set in cold water.
