Abstract

881,921. Sugar-cane mills. PAYET, P. R. May 16, 1960 [July 18, 1959], No. 17190/60. Class 59. Apparatus for conveying and feeding sugar cane to one of a line of mills comprises means for bringing the cane to a raised point, means for projecting the cane into the air, and means for deflecting the projected cane to the intake of the first or a succeeding mill. As shown, cane 4 fed by a conveyer 3 is shredded and projected into the air by means of the blades 2 of a motordriven rotor 1. The projected cane is deflected by a deflector 6 and fed to the intake of mill 7. After passage through the mill 7, the cane is directed, by means of a scraper 11, up an inclined plane 12 and is shredded and projected into the air by the blades 2 of another motor-driven rotor 1. The cane is then deflected by another deflector 6 and fed to the intake of mill 10. Each deflector may be a flat or curved metal plate formed by the poles of a permanent magnet or of an electromagnet 14 which serves to arrest any tramp iron in the cane.
