Abstract
880,577. Beaming machines. KIMPTON, W. H. Oct. 14, 1959 [Oct. 15, 1958; Aug. 13, 1959], Nos. 32862/58 and 27664/59. Class 142(1) During build-up a movable beam 10 is maintained under constant pressure against a fixed driving drum 16. The ends of the beam 10 are connected to a worm wheel 23 so that transverse movement of the beam rotates the wheel 23 and causes axial movement of a worm 22 against the pressure of an adjustable spring 17. Such axial movement engages a clutch 29, 37 which rotates the worm 22 causing it to move in the opposite axial direction to release the clutch and restore equilibrium. The connection between the beam 10 and wheel 23 may be by a yoke or by a differential gear 24b, 32a so that a constant pressure is maintained between the beam and drum over the whole length of the beam.
