Abstract

879,700. Screw elevators. SONNEBORN CHEMICAL & REFINING CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 5608/60. Class 78 (1). A screw elevator 3 has a lower tapered part 9 which works in a correspondingly shaped part 6 of the casing 4. The shaft 1 of the screw is supported solely by the driving means 2 and where it passes through the closed top of the casing 4, a sealed sliding joint 14 is provided. This joint may consist of a carbon ring or sleeve secured within a steel ring or sleeve. Material is fed to the elevator through a pipe 7 and is discharged through a pipe 5. The casing 4 may be surrounded by a jacket 16 which is supplied with hot combustion gases.
