Abstract
879,515. Oil-break switches; electricallytripped switches; switchgear structures; latching switches; switch covers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 19, 1959 [June 27, 1958], No. 20679/58. Class 38 (5). An oil circuit-breaker comprises an oil-filled lower compartment 1 housing the fixed and movable contacts 7, 9 and secured to an upper compartment 2 carrying the latching mechanism 5 and protection devices 6. Mechanism 5 consists of a metal plate 19 attached to a rotatable shaft 15 and having an arcuate arm 20, which carries a pivoted trip catch 21 whose roller 23 normally engages a notch 24 in a metal catch 25 secured to a plate 14 loosely mounted on the shaft 15. Rotation of the latter opens or closes the moving contact 9 by means of an arm 11 pivoted on the plate 14, and on an insulated bar 10 carried on an arm 8 pivoted to a terminal 4. In the closed position the arm 20 engages a U-shaped projection 21 to prevent removal of the lid 3, and a projection 18 from the inside wall of the compartment 1 engages a shoulder 17 on the arm 11 to prevent the removal of this compartment. The breaker may be opened by actuation of a tripping tail 22 which rotates the catch 21 anticlockwise, thus releasing the plate 14. The lid 3 may be replaced by an isolator of the type described in Specification 879,514 or by a cover containing instruments. Specification 879,511 also is referred to.
